Being in Whistler this weekend made me grateful for more than just good weather.
Good friends.
Nancy, Mark and Roger arrived with outdoor skills and tequila and Jan was the most amazing host offering appies to rival the Chateau Whistler and organic wine as well! BTW, her winter knitting projects were gorgeous. Her current Noro Bag is going to be stunning when it is finished. We just missed the paragliding adventure due to rain on Monday morning.
People’s best friends….
Dagger is John’s true Sunday Market buddy. But Roger returns the ball instead of eats it, so there might be a shift in the buddy department.
The inspirational surroundings.
The picture on the right is the artesian well water. The lodge is actually off the Whistler grid and I filled my water bottle more times in 3 days than I would in a week.
Being able to take in the surroundings.
Having the opportunity to create. Two different versions of cocoons.
I didn’t mean to have such a photo heavy post, or realize I had so much to be thankful for.

I wish I had more time to spend in Calgary, but there are many shows after this and no time `

Not that I was at a loss to complete the list, but John and I have never had this much time together and we have been making the most of it with crazy weird holiday togetherness. Now time to get back to the business at hand…Continuing to make my happy list.
11. Opera Man. Those of you who live in South Granville may be familiar with him. Hands in pocket, twice a day he may wander by your house belting out his best aria. This was Christmas Day and he sang a Christmas carol as he went by our house.
12. Asia. Four years ago when she came into our lives I thought, oh my God…I’m one of THOSE people now, but our lives have been enriched by this plucky little bundle who stuck her tongue out at me the other day. The other two cats have made the adjustment and we are one happy furry family.
13. My first balanced single. Since I have spent so much time Plucking and Fluffing, I have not spent any time working on an actual well spun yarn. This is a 50/50 batt of BFL and kid mohair.
And this one….Merino, kid mohair and BFL.
14. Continuing Education. This year I was fortunate enough to attend two workshops that have really enhanced the approach I take to my work. This photo is from a Prudence Mapstone workshop John surprised me with in July including two days in Sechelt and studying in a yurt. The hands of a true artisan.
15. My first hand knit item for John in 13 years. I have been promising him a sweater since we first met. Since I’ve been knitting for a living, gift knitting just wasn’t possible. This year has been full of possibilities.
I want to make sure I finish this list before the new year (as I know I am guaranteed to have so much more to appreciate).

I should NOT have been able to make it to the Farmer’s Market this weekend.
- animal with conjunctivitis
- spouse had gum surgery
- friend coming in from Toronto
- no vehicle or means to get to Whistler
With all of these issues, I thought to myself, what a great time to spend a weekend home. So much to get caught up on and “what’s the big deal about missing a market?”
In a flurry of minutes and a few phone calls Saturday morning, plans were made, things were planned and a van was loaded. I have amazing luck and friends who are definitely invested in my success. THANK YOU.Whistler helped in it’s own way by providing perfect weather and a vibe just ripe for shopping.
Julie, Pearl and I saw the town as tourists. We partook of Mountain meat for the last BBQ of the season on top of Blackcomb Mountain. Imagine dinner at 6,000 feet.
While we were outside having dinner on the mountain top — a cloud blew right through us. It was exhilarating. With a market the next day things weren’t too crazy….I’ve got to tell you, it’s not tough to spend a night knitting in the Fairmont. Again, my high praise to www.whistler.com for the BEST last minute hotel deals.
Haunting and gorgeous. Knitting in a cloud, wrapped in a big knit sweater, there ain’t nothin better!
