Display Dilemmas

Since I have been using up my hand spun scraps to make little flower pins, I’ve been delighted at being able to scrap, stash bust, but confused about how to display them for shows.

FINALLY…

Why do I love this so much?

  • I can store it this way
  • They are all in one place
  • Inventory control
  • No need for individual tags
  • Pretty, pretty
  • I can change the background tissue under the screen seasonally.
  • Flat, will hang on a gridwall

How long will I love it? That remains to be seen.

This is my dining room table right now. I am hoping I can convince John that this alone is reason for take out….Maylasian green curry chicken……not cleaning the table right now. There is still a small patch of free space on the livingroom couch.

Tomorrow is World Wide knit in Public day. Trout Lake is such a busy market, I don’t think I’ll be able to pick up a stitch….if you are a knitter, please come by and say hi at the market tomorrow.

Habib has taken refuge in a box of alpaca fleece. No free spaces without inventory on them. Sorry kitty, mama has got to work.

What the hell am I up to now?

Just getting ready for my favourite activity….ladies knitting and noshing at this amazing Cook Shop on West 10th near Urban Yarns….They have an outdoor patio with a water feature…Okay it wasn’t working the last time we were there, but it looked great.

This is my last chance to get together with everyone before the Farmer’s Market Season hits full blast.

Today’s project, in addition to the bagging and tagging—because I just have to have one procrastination task. Even Asia was giving me the hairy eyeball…

So this is what I’ve started…

May your day be full of enjoyable things.

When pretty just happens.

A wonderful thing happened at the Birkeland Bros knitting group on Monday night. I just finished this hat and the perfect person was there to try it on.

A really diverse and cool group of women, with babies and doggies and lots and lots of yarn, this has turned into my favourite knit place. And if that isn’t enough, please say hello to the MOTHER of all carding machines……There is a fantastic article about Birkeland Bros and this carding machine in Shannon Oakey’s spinning book. Read it if you get a chance.

Okay, too big for the living room.

And finally a wall of wool rivaling my own…

Sexy.

Want vs. Need vs. Greed?

How do you decide what you want is actually what you need? For knitting, it’s simple. Since I sell what I knit (or spin), any purchase that furthers that regard is pretty much “game on”. That is, until now.

The studio is ridiculously full of fleece, rovings, yarn, cotton, packaging, 3 spinning wheels, and even 4,000 elastic bands. I feel like I have moved into Costco – sans large wheel of cheese. I really want to get to the bottom of the pile….but the things I want to knit are from the yarn I haven’t spun yet, or the Malabrigo or Fleece Artist I don’t own yet.

I even have a partner in crime now. Pearl (who is an awesome thrifter) has stumbled upon my weakness for vintage plastic needles. And so…the collection grows.

How do you justify your stash if you don’t knit for a living…Seriously, I want to know. I need to make myself feel better about this growing mountain of yarn under me.

Father’s Day

I have two shows planned for Father’s Day weekend. On Saturday I will be at Trout Lake and on Sunday I’ll be in Whistler for the opening day of the market season.

In honour of Dad, I have put together the coolest Dad gift. Matching father/son pirate hats. The dad hat is in merino wool and the child hat is a wonderful machine wash merino/acrylic blend. Choose your colours. Free delivery in Vancouver so that your gift is received before the weekend and gift wrapped as well. Choose your colours in the comment line and your gift will be ready to go.

$80.00 plus applicable taxes.

Feel free to e-mail me at [email protected] if you have any colour or sizing inquiries. I wish I knit back in the day so that my dad would be saved the horror of a hand made clay ashtray. (He didn’t smoke).

If the pirate isn’t hard core enough, how about something for your little devils?

Enjoy your special weekend with your special guy!

My Private Winter

On the hottest days, I chose the wooliest yarn to knit with and suddenly, YES, I changed the weather. It is nine degrees and raining. I apologize to the rest of Vancouver, but this is absolutely my favourite weather to knit in!

I have been so wrapped up in projects this week that I haven’t posted….How about a few pics.

Simple shapes, wonderful designs.

The hat is in merino wool, the flower is suede, embellished with a button and embroidered.

Rather than kissing a frog, how about wearing one. I will not be pricing this hat for sale as Pearl contributed the amazing frog. We will call him Phillip.

So much hand spun and so little time, yet, I have to knit some of it. I have decided to use it in scarves to mix with some beautiful hand dyed kid mohair that I have. Lots of turquoise (already done) and now I’ve moved into pinks and browns.
And because everything can’t be chunky, one more fine free form crochet.

Pearl is coming over…..wool will abound, knitting will happen and the sci fi channel will be on nice and loud. Can’t ask for a better day than this.
