I’ve been in denial and down for the count for the last two days. Since I haven’t been able to get dressed or leave the house or keep my head upright I opted for finishing some custom orders in my few moments of lucidity.
BTW, he is deliberately supposed to look pitiful. And Lionel still looks way better than I feel.

January is a strange mionth. Oddly enough, I look forward to the January rain. Sort of washing everything away. I like the cool and dark and I find myself working with a lot of grays in January. Gabi has had me working on a few custom pieces for her (happily in lovely grays) I’m going to wait for her photos with them on beautiful babies, rather than my IPhone pictures of them laying flat on a table.
Today I am tidying up a few things, Gabi is swinging by to pick up two hats and a pretty little surprise. As it was a rush order, I did not spin or dye either one of the yarns but rather treated myself to a skein of Punta and a skein of Malabrigo.in rich, rich, reds. Yummy. Pics from Gabi’s shoot to follow.
Kim and I lived large on the weekend and headed to Victoria for the day…which can only mean one thing….a celebration of all things yarnie. A trip to Beehive as well as Knotty by Nature netted us some pretty fab yarns and such.
My new prized possession, my Jordana Paige Rio Bag in green.
New lesson about the ultimate knitting bag……just because this purse can hold several skeins of yarn and tons of accessories does not mean you should fill it until bursting.
The 355 project is coming along nicely, although a great little 3 ply is slowing me down a bit. I’ll try to update with some new additions to the 355 page tomorrow. I’ve enjoyed this project immensely. Exploring my desire to spin and the yarns that satisfy me on a given day is giving me a deeper understanding of myself. Now more than ever, I find the yarns a finished result of my expression.

All it took was a chat with Joan, a Craigslist ad and word of mouth and by March 1, the studio will be full with new and exciting possibilities. In the meantime with the help of organized friends, I’m enjoying the new face lift the studio has received.
It feels like all this extra room but it’s just more effectively used. All hail IKEA, the fixer of space and storage solutions.I finished both of the beginner spinning classes at
Birkeland. I have never had such an enthusiastic group. They literally attacked the idea of spinning. It was gratifying.
As well as the teaching, I’ve been feverishly working on the 355 Project. Inspiration for my current skein came from one of Felicia’s exquisite rovings. BFL and silk are my favourite combination of fibre, the lustrous long wool and the drape from the silk make gorgeous yarn. I’ll post a pic when it’s done so you can see for yourself.
Looking forward….new studio mates, new yarn, new possibilities.

I found out yesterday that one of my studio mates is leaving at the beginning of March. I’m completely bummed out. The place has just started to have it’s own groove. The cafe macchiatos are brewing, I’m not getting completely rejected when I play the Buffy musical CD and I really enjoy the company of everyone there.
Change is good, right?
Change is good.
Change is good.
Change is good.
Toni and Kim just helped me redecorate and create a great new space and is it really too much to ask not to have any more change right now?
I have neglected posting some pics for the 355 Project (just trying to deal right now) and the changes to the studio space. Does anyone locally know someone who might like a functional basement studio space (small) with a fancy coffee maker and some yarnie ambiance.
Must like elderly cats, the occasional curious child and listening to textile talk. Anyone, anyone?

It’s been a long time since we’ve had a full afternoon together. I have missed our quality time my sweet Louet Drum Carder. Thank you for not judging me for our time apart. I promise I won’t abandon you again.

The spinning class tonight was full of rock stars. I am deeply humbled by this shared love and passion for all that is fibre. Whle I watched each student find their own rhythm, I thought about how not so long ago it was when I took the same journey. Amazing. Now I can’t imagine a life without being surrounded by mega fluffs of free floating fibre.
And to come home and find this in my inbox…..well, I’d call this a near perfect day. Thanks Gabi.

Today was the first day of 355 days of yarning. In order to fully apply myself to the task, I called in the cavalry to get me through it. Toni, Mariegold, Jennifer and even Paul cheered me on, and photo documented the process.
While I was working on my second single Toni was prepping me for the day of organization tomorrow. Yes, I gave up part of my studio space to another textile designer. I felt I needed all the space, but really I was just greedy and inefficient with the space I had.
The streamlining should be good for me and it gets me in the studio tomorrow. I’ll have to remember to bring the hitchhiker home so that I will still be able to stay on point for my spinning project on the days I don’t make it to the studio. Must also remember to stuff a few batts in my purse as well then.

MelonHead unwritten law…
You must knit your first hand spun of the year.
Next rule. Immediately spin more. I have decided to spin one yarn a day for the rest of the year Who wouldn’t want their stash enhanced by 355 skeins of yarn. Yarns will be posted in the new Project 355 tab.
